Trenca Regrouping Following Frustrating Weekend

Story By: SHAWN MILLER / MUCCI MOTORSPORTS – CLAY, NY – Joe Trenca and Mucci Motorsports are going to take a short break to regroup following a frustrating start to the summer.

Last weekend was a headache for the team, which kicked off action on Friday at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour. Trenca was unable to finish a heat race because of a mechanical problem.

“That started us toward the back of the B Main,” he said. “We got a lap in and went from 10th to third, but the problem wasn’t fixed so I pulled off. There was a caution and I knew it wasn’t fixed. I didn’t want to risk anything so I pulled off.”

The team swapped to a 410ci winged sprint car for a Pennsylvania Speedweek show on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.

“A lack of experience bit us,” he said. “It’s a whole new world down there. It’s really tough, especially an event like that. It’s challenging to race 360s regularly and then show up to a 410 race in Central Pennsylvania and expect to compete.”

Trenca qualified 28th quickest. He advanced from ninth to eighth place in a heat race and was making headway in the B Main before a late-race restart.

“We got up to around ninth (after starting 13th) in the B Main,” he said. “We had a caution with two laps to go. On the restart I missed my marks and fell back to 13th.

“We’re going to take this weekend off and go through our race cars to make sure everything is correct.”
