Race Of Champions LM’s Return To Racing Saturday At Lancaster
Story By: RACE OF CHAMPIONS – LANCASTER, NY – The Race of Champions Late Model Series fueled by Sunoco will race for the first time in 2017 this Saturday night at Lancaster (N.Y.) National Speedway. The division, which will have four races during the 2017 season, will be highlighted at Lancaster with three events and also take part in the 67th Annual Race of Champions at Lake Erie Speedway in North East, Pa., on Saturday, September 30.
Traditional Late Model competitors like Bob Weber and Dave Russell of Clarence, N.Y., along with Nick Crassi, Ron and Scott Nurmi, Frank Batista and a host of others will take on the fast speed plant just East of Buffalo, N.Y.
Race fans will also be treated to the return on of one their own legends on Saturday when John Julicher straps into a Late Model for the first time since his announced retirement in 2005. Julicher of Williamsville, N.Y., is the winningest Late Model driver in the history of Lancaster and was inducted into the Friends of Auto-Racing Hall-of-Fame in 2008.
In addition to his Lancaster accomplishments Julicher earned a track championship at Spencer Speedway in Williamson, N.Y., just east of Rochester.
The Race of Champions Late Model Series fueled by Sunoco joins the Sunoco Sportsman, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders. The night’s festivities will also be a “Retro” and Homecoming Night for several of Lancaster National Speedway’s former stars.
