Outlaws Vs. PA Posse At Williams Grove’s Summer Nationals
Story By: COLBY GORNIEWICZ / WORLD OF OUTLAWS – CONCORD, NC – The stage is set once again for rounds five and six of the World of Outlaws versus the Pennsylvania Posse battle of 2017. The World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series heads into enemy territory on Friday and Saturday, July 21 and 22 at Williams Grove Speedway for the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals.
So far in 2017 the Outlaws have landed the first three punches in as many races against the Posse. David Gravel took two of the first three events with a win at Lincoln Speedway on May 17 and at Williams Grove on May 19, while Shane Stewart picked up his first win of the season at Williams Grove in mid-May.
“I’m looking forward to Williams Grove. Love the challenge,” said Gravel, who currently has nine wins and is looking to break double digits in the win column. “We had a pretty good car the last time out.”
The battle between the two groups continues on at Williams Grove, where the Outlaws have raced every year since the series started in 1978, with the lone exception of 1985.
Once a Posse member, Brent Marks - from nearby Myerstown, PA – is running fulltime with the Outlaws this year. He didn’t have the best homecoming the last time around with a 10th and 23rd-place finish at the half-mile Williams Grove oval.
“We didn’t have that good of a swing the last time we were back there, but maybe we can change it around this time around,” said Marks.
A good run at Williams Grove could give Marks the jumpstart his team needs and another notch on the scoreboard for the Outlaws.
“Going back home and getting to places you’re familiar with can give you a confidence boost and help you finish out the season well,” added Marks. “We’re hoping to go back home in a couple weeks, run good in front of our family, friends and sponsors. It could an opportunity to gain some lost ground.”
If you were to poll a crowd to determine the best in the 410 Sprint Car world, you may get a different answer every time. Kyle Larson, the current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points leader and Elk Grove, CA-native, has quickly become a sure answer, having taken on the Posse successfully. Larson has won six consecutive 410 Sprint Car starts, including the World of Outlaws event at Eagle Raceway and three of the four events he entered during Pennsylvania Speedweek.
