Kenny Edkin Just Keeps Winning At Susquehanna
Story By: BRAD VORES / SUSQUEHANNA SPEEDWAY – YORK HAVEN, PA – Kenny Edkin just isn’t letting up. The young Marysville, PA racer stormed from his 12th starting spot to capture his second consecutive and fifth overall Credit Connection Auto Sales Super Sportsman feature Saturday at Susquehanna Speedway.
Chase Dietz raced to his first career Susquehanna Speedway win in the K1 RaceGear 358 Sprint Summer Series feature while Kory Sites ended the streak of first time winners in Morgan Paving/Aqua Fun Pools Street Stock action, becoming the first repeat winner this season.
Alex Updegraff continued his winning ways in the Superior Homes Extreme Stocks with his eighth win of the year.
After Garrett Williamson and Matt Ondek traded the lead during the first eight laps of the 25-lap Super Sportsman feature, Edkin made the race winning move with nine laps complete after lining up on the sixth row.
Edkin pulled away from the field once again as he continued his summer hot streak and padded his track points lead with his eighth straight top five finish aboard his family owned Edkin’s Towing, Carlisle Auto Salvage, Marysville Motorcars, King Spin Pizza, Rich Valley Black Walnuts No. 75.
Mike Enders came from eighth to finish in the runner-up spot followed by 10th starter Paul Miller, Ondek and 11th starter Scott Dellinger with Russ Mitten, Doug Dodson, Rich Eichelberger, Chase Gutshall and 23rd starter and ArtWerks Hard Charger Davey Walsh completing the top ten.
Heats for the 23 Super Sportsman were won by Gutshall, Edkin and Tony Jackson.
Troy Wagaman, Jr. led the first ten laps of the 25-lap K1 RaceGear 358 Sprint Summer Series feature before fourth-starting Chase Dietz took over and would never look back in scoring his first win for the R & R Motorsports/Roger McGeehan owned team.
Dietz, who earned $1,500 for the win took the checkered flag ahead of Steven Drevicki, Wagaman, Brent Shearer and Jordan Givler.
Rounding out the top ten were 22nd starter and Hard Charger Chris Frank, Mike Bittinger, Chris Arnold, Chandler Leiby and TJ DeHaven.
The 358 Sprint car main was stopped twice with red flags involving top challengers Chad Trout, who set fast time and multi-time Central PA winner Doug Hammaker.
Drevecki, Wagaman, Givler and Dietz were heat winners for the 38-car field while Todd Gracey won the consolation. Trout paced time trials with a fast lap of 16.672 seconds.
Veteran driver Kory Sites became the first repeat winner in ten races this season as he picked up his second win in the Morgan Paving/Aqua Fun Pools Street Stock feature.
Sites started third and wasted little time in taking control, gaining the lead on lap two and holding on despite six caution periods during the 20 lap event.
Sites took the win over Craig Morgan, 10th starter Michael Walls, Mike Potts and Scott Strickler as Dalton Frye, 16th starter Randy Zechman, Kevin Heckman, 19th starter and Artwerks Hard Charger Jimmy Combs and Jim Palm were the top ten finishers.
