RPW’s “Hot Mic” With Marty Kelly
Story By: RYAN HILL / RPW – MALTA, NY – Sportsman Modified driver and Lebanon Valley Speedway track announcer Marty Kelly reflects on last week’s race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway race in West Haven, VT, and on racing last night at Brett Hearn’s Big Show 9.
You know what’s wild? The racing world is indeed a stage, and suddenly I am part of the show?
ON RACING DEVIL’S BOWL SPEEDEWAY:
“I used to go to Devil’s Bowl every Sunday, and this month I have made three starts there.
I stood on the track side of the fence and signed autographs, in the same way that I used to go and get them from drivers”
I am scheduled to make my first start at Albany-Saratoga Speedway at Brett Hearn’s Big Show 9. I have been at every one of those races since the fourth one. I stood in line at the autograph session for an hour. I will not be able to do that this year.
I used to watch Kenny Tremont race, and last week I went side by side with the 115, and watched him pass me.
ON BRETT HEARN’S BIG SHOW 9:
“We had a good car, and turned some good laps. The car great off the bottom, there was just too many mistakes on my part to make any consistent progress.”
ON RACING AT SUCH A BIG EVENT:
“It was tremendous, hats off to Brett Hearn. It was great to be in front of a big crowd, at such a big event. “. I have been at every one of Brett’s races since the fourth one. I stood in line at the autograph session for an hour. I wasn’t able to do that this year.”
ON THE FUTURE:
“Later this season I am scheduled to make my first start at Lebanon Valley Speedway, where I have been watching guys do it for 18 years.”
“I used to watch DIRTcar Sportsman races. In April I was in one. Life does move pretty fast, and the days go by….”
