Mat Williamson Wins Sunday Evening At Cornwall Motor Speedway
Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – A busy night of racing at the Cornwall Motor Speedway with the first round of CJs Auto Weekend Warriors Mini-Stock Series along with the Midget SpeedSTR, 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro-Stock on Charles Wert AG Products Pioneer Hi-Bred night.
Mat Williamson to the lead in the 40-lap Modified feature over Tristan Draper and Brian McDonald. Yellow came out on lap 9 for Kyle Dingwall. Williamson in front as Carey Terrance was on the move taking second and set his eyes on the lead with 13 laps in the books. Williamson still first as Chris Herbison had nowhere to go and hit the wall hard in the frontstretch and yellow was out on lap 22. While Williamson pulled away, Ryan Arbuthnot took third with less than 10 to go. Williamson never looked back and won his first win of the year at Cornwall over Terrance and Arbuthnot.
In the 32-lap Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman feature with Jared Herbison to the lead with Gabriel Cyr and Michael Delormier in the third. The high lane started to work for Cyr as he took the lead from Herbison on lap 8. Caution came out on lap 17 for Karl Potvin. Cyr back in front on the restart with Herbison and Gilles Godard in third. Cyr held off charges from Herbison and captured his first feature of the season.
A good battle for the lead in the early portion of the 25-lap Alexandria Home Hardware Pro-Stock as Dave Seguin took the top spot over Marc Lalonde and Stephane Lebrun. Caution was out on lap 12 for Roch Aubin. Racing was close in front as Lebrun grabbed the lead with less than 5 laps to go. Lebrun led the final portion and got the win.
The CJs Auto Weekend Warriors 25-lap Mini-Stock feature saw James Clarke quickly jumping to the lead over Dan Cook and Justin Jodoin. Clarke pulled away from the field. Brandon McMillan brought the caution with 7 laps to go. On the restart, Clarke to the lead with Cook and Jodoin behind him. Clarke never looked back and captured his 4th feature in 5 tries.
In the 20-lap Midget SpeedSTR, Patrick Lague and Yan Bussiere went into battle for the lead as Mathieu Bardier was in third. Lague led all the laps to capture the event here at the speedway.
Busy times for the Cornwall Motor Speedway as we will have 2 events in 4 days at the speedway with the Farnham Ale Lager Canadian Weekend Warriors Pro-Stock Series highliting Sunday’s program as the Ramone Pizzera Canadian Big Block Series will be in town on Wednesday night.
