Canadian Nationals & Race For The Cure Series To Welcome Back Fans At Cornwall Sunday
Story By: MARTIN BÉLANGER / CORNWALL MOTOR SPEEDWAY – CORNWALL, ONT – Now that Ontario is in Step 2 of the reopening plan, the Cornwall Motor Speedway is ready to host their fans this coming Sunday evening as this step will allow 25% of capacity in the grandstand.
After 3 events without any spectators, the Lavergne family will start the party with a bang with both the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals and Race for the Cure Sportsman Series along with the Vintage, Mini-Stock and Novice.
The 358-Modified has been really competitive thus far with 3 different feature winners and the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals usually brings the best from Ontario and Quebec to compete. The amount of laps will be a little lower as Cornwall is providing support in the tire industry to avoid a potential shortage down the road. Defending series champion Corey Wheeler will look to defend his title but he will have several contenders as well including feature winners Kyle Dingwall, Yan Bussiere and Steve Bernard. You can also expect Steve Bernier, Carey Terrance, Luke Whitteker, Joey Ladouceur, JF Corriveau, Chris Raabe, Brian McDonald and others to be in the winner circle after 60 laps of hard battle. A points fund of $5,000 and other bonus prizes, are up for grabs in the series.
A similar scenario is shaping up in the Race for the Cure Sportsman Series as many drivers will be in attendance for the richest of all 4 local series at Cornwall with a $10,000 points fund courtesy of TAS Racing. Ryan Stabler, Cedric Gauvreau, Tyler Givogue, Bobby Herringrton, Jarrett Herbison, Gabriel Cyr and Thomas Cook are amongst the local favourites to win the event. We are expecting several invaders including two of the best from Western Ontario in Brad Rouse and Cody McPherson. A 50-lap event is on the schedule for the Sportsman.
The Vintage will make their first presence of the season will over 15 cars in attendance along with the Mini-Stock and Novice Sportsman.
Pit gates will open at 3pm with admission costs at $40 and access permitted to race teams only. General admission will open at 5pm and cost is set at $25 for adults, $5 for kids between 6 and 17 years old, all tickets must be purchased online on thepointofsale.com or by contact the speedway to reserve your spot. Time trials will start at 6pm following with heat racing at 6:30pm.
