Shane Cockrum Scores USAC Eastern Storm Silver Crown Win At Williams Grove Speedway

Story By: SHAWN BROUSE / WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY – MECHANICSBURG, PA – In the 100-lap USAC Silver Crown main event Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, Shane Cockrum of Benton, Illinois, scored the $8,000 win after taking control on the 73rd lap.

Cockrum started the 100 circuit Silver Crown race from the seventh starting spot before working his way to the lead.

Polesitter Jason McDougal led the first 20 laps of the affair before eighth starter Logan Seavey of Sutter, California, got by for control with an inside move.

Seavey was well out in front when he suddenly slowed with driveline problems on lap 42, handing control back over to McDougal of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Justin Grant restarted second and wasted no time making a bid for command, taking a low line for control when green replaced the yellow.

This began McDougal’s slip backwards while both Brady Bacon and Cockrum started coming to the front.

The pair raced side by side for a number of laps before Cockrum took the second spot for good.

With 30 laps to go, Bacon tried working the outside for second but instead Cockrum took his queue and bolted extremely low on the frontstretch to get inside of Grant with 27 laps to go.

And once he got the lead Cockrum began stringing his fastest laps of the race together while Shane Cottle came to second.

Restarts on laps 86 and 95 proved no contest for Cockrum who took the checkers by .466 seconds ahead of Cottle.

Chris Windom finished third followed by Bacon and Kyle Robbins.

Sixth through 10th went to McDougal, Carmen Perigo Jr., Justin Grant, Robert Ballou and Mike Haggenbottom.

Fast time was set by McDougal in track record time of 20.354 seconds.
