RPW Column: Tim Fuller Was In Full Control Friday Night At Can-Am Speedway
Column By: CAN-AM SPEEDWAY – LAFARGEVILLE, NY – Tim Fuller in the St. Lawrence Radiology number 19 was electric at Can-Am Speedway on Friday night.
The Watertown, New York native began the night by qualifying with the fastest time for the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTcar 358 Modifieds in preliminary heat racing. Fuller took full advantage of his pole position start by roaring out to a commanding lead at the drop of the green flag.
Fuller looked pretty much unstoppable and uncatchable, were it not for a few early caution flags that brought the field back together for restarts. Each and every time there was a restart, however, Fuller was quickest on the accelerator, jumping out ahead of the pack with the return to green flag racing.
With but a handful of laps remaining, Billy Dunn 49 made it interesting. Dunn started tenth and had managed to wind his way into second place after several highly contested laps with Lance Willix 31. Dunn caught up to Fuller and waited for the number 19 car to make a mistake that he could pounce on. Instead, Fuller weaved through lapped traffic masterfully, keeping enough distance between himself and second place Dunn to earn the victory.
“I was happy to get one tonight,” Fuller said, from the Bob Johnson Auto Group Victory Lane. “A lot of lapped traffic out there, it took a little to get around it. The top of the track was pretty good. A little rough in turns three and four, but pretty good. I think there will be a lot of back and forth with him (second place finisher Billy Dunn) as the season goes on.”
Fuller has had a spectacular start to the young 2021 season, winning the Super DIRTcar King of the Big Blocks at Bridgeport Motorsports Park on May 5th and adding the victory at Can-Am on May 14th. In 2020 Fuller notched four victories total, all at Can-Am, in the DIRTcar 358 Modified division.
