RPW Exclusive: Larson Completely Dominates Caution Free Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series At All-Tech
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – LAKE CITY, FL – After the rain out on Friday evening, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series held their lone All-Tech Raceway event for 2021 on Saturday night. With 57 entries, the drivers were anxious to hit the track.
Winning heat races was Tyler Erb, Devin Moran, Brian Shirley, Brandon Overton, Kyle Bronson, and Kyle Larson and taking home BMain victories was Jesse Stovall and Rick Eckert. All evening the track was slick, a lot slicker than what most of the drivers were not expecting after a day of rain on Friday.
Tyler Erb and Brandon Overton started on the front row to bring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to green. For the opening 13 laps, ‘Terbo’ Tyler Erb was able to hold back Overton and even Devin Moran from gaining the race lead. Meanwhile, sixth place starter, Kyle Larson quickly made his way passed Moran for second and stalked the Best Performance ride of Erb for the lead. While navigating lap track, Larson in the Rumley Motorsports Bilstein Shocks number 6 went from the bottom lane to the top side to try and find a way around Erb.
Larson was able to finally take the lead on the top lane of 3 and 4 to take the lead on lap 14 in heavy lap track. As the drivers continued to work the track, Larson opened up his lead. Jimmy Owens, the defending series champion, was able to make his way from 13th to finish 4th at the checkered. Meanwhile Tim McCreadie went backwards, he started 15th to finish 20th.
After going caution free for 50 laps, it would be Kyle Larson winning his second ever Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event by over 15 seconds, lapping up to 8th place, in the most dominating performance by a driver to win a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. Devin Moran would finish 2nd, Mike Marlar would finish 3rd, Owens 4th, and Brandon Sheppard 5th.
