Story By: ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – A Dirt Racing tradition keeps on running; Orange County Fair Speedway is happy to announce the 59th annual Eastern States 200 in October.
The ES 200 is the oldest Modified Stock Car race in the USA having started in 1962. This year’s Eastern States Weekend will be trimmed to a 2 day event taking place on Friday October 23rd and Saturday October 24th. As always the action will include the Big Block Modifieds, Small Block Modifieds, Crate Sportsman and the Street Stock divisions. In the event of a rain out or delay, Sunday October 25th has been reserved.
Friday the 23rd’s Race schedule is jammed with events including: Time trials for Mods, SBM’s and Crates, and at least 20 qualifying races for those 3 divisions as well. The evening culminates with a 20 lap Modified Rapid Tire sponsored “Race For The Pole”. This exciting, new event will put the top 6 time trialers and the 6 heat winners in a 20 lap shoot-out that will set the top 12 starters for Saturday night’s Eastern States field.
Saturday the 24th’s Race program includes: 2 SBM Last Chance races, 2 Modified Last Chance races, 25 Lap Street Stock ES championship, $1000 to win. Another new event the “10 Lap Modified really-really Last Chance Race” followed by the 50 Lap Crate Open ES Championship that pays $5,000 to win. That is followed by the 75 Lap Small Block Modified Eastern States Championship. The winners share of that race is $10,000. The day concludes with the $25,000 to win 59th Annual Eastern States 200 Lap Modified Championship. The Eastern States 200 keeps its tradition of a live pit stop race. Additional award announcements to follow.
Race teams will be allowed in on the grounds Thursday the 22nd at 11:00 AM to claim their reserved spots for the weekend event. All Race Teams should pre-register by contacting the Speedway office @ 845-342-2573 beginning Monday October 5th at 10:am or as soon as possible to obtain the best possible pit spot for the weekend as they will be assigned in the order that the race entries are received. Entry forms and fees are on the OCFS website. This applies to all divisions. If a race team is entering more than one car or one division please let us know so we can do our best to get team cars next to each other.
For the event we will be using both the traditional pit area inside the speedway and the newly created pit area behind the grandstands this year. Pit pass holders will have access to both areas. Team pit locations will be determined by the height of their haulers and the order of their entries. The tallest race car haulers will be parked in the outside pit area for optimum fan viewing. The use of the 2 different pit areas will allow us to spread out the lager number of teams to meet social distancing requirements.
OCFS legal SBM / 358’s will be allowed to attempt to qualify for the Eastern States 200, however they must meet the Big Block Modified minimum weight of 2500 lbs.
The Crate / Sportsman Eastern States 50 Lap Championship is open to all drivers.
