Tony Stewart Racing’s Donny Schatz Charges To Top-Ten Finish During Huset’s WoO Finale
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / TONY STEWART RACING – BROWNSBURG, IN – Donny Schatz’ return to the highbanks of Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, ended in consistent fashion, not only capping the two-day visit with a pair of top-ten performances, but the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion advanced a total of 15 feature positions in 70 laps.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/DieHard/Advance Professional/Carquest Auto Parts/Technet Professional Automotive Service/Ford Performance/Mobil 1/Sage Fruit/Curb Records/Absolute Automation & Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Digital Ally/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, kicked-off his weekend with a sixth-place run during the $10,000-to-win preliminary on Saturday, September 5. The Fargo, North Dakota-native started ninth on the feature grid, solidifying his place with a third-place run during heat race action.
Undeterred by a tenth-row starting spot the following evening, forced to start deep after finishing fifth during his respective heat race, Schatz did big things on Sunday during the Huset’s Speedway weekend finale and rallied 12 spots to finish eighth, high enough to secure the evening’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions during the $20,000-to-win main event.
With all results considered, Schatz remains third in the World of Outlaws championship chase, 80 points shy of the top spot, anchored by three victories and 28 top-ten appearances.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their quest toward the 2020 World of Outlaws championship with a two-day visit to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas, on Friday and Saturday, September 11-12. Each program will award $10,000 top prizes.
Schatz is a recent World of Outlaws winner in the Sunflower State, scoring the Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown at Dodge City on Friday, September 20, 2019.
