Rico Abreu Highlights Extended Week With Top-Five During WoO Start At Wayne County
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Despite a wave of bad luck and frustrating results that seemed to plague his final week on the east coast, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu managed to find some light and scored a top-five outcome during World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series competition at Wayne County Speedway on Friday, September 25.
Abreu finished fifth against the Greatest Show On Dirt, powering forward from the outside of row four after qualifying through his respective heat race. In fact, the former All Star winner at Wayne County battled his way to fourth, but ten-time Series champion, Donny Schatz, reclaimed the position forcing Abreu to settle for fifth.
Unfortunately, Abreu’s luck only proved to be valuable in Orrville, Ohio. The six-time feature winner in 2020 suffered from mechanical failure during night one of Eldora Speedway’s Governors Reign, only to weigh two pounds light at the scales on night two, ultimately erasing all hope for a shot at the $52,000 top prize.
Mechanical misfortune would strike again during Selinsgrove Speedway’s annual National Open on Saturday, September 26. Abreu started tenth on the feature grid, but would eventually surrender his place in the running order and settle with an 18th-place score.
“If it wasn’t for bad luck, we would have no luck at all. At least we were able to put together a great night against the Outlaws at Wayne County Speedway. We are really proud about that,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Davis Door Company/J. We spent a lot of time in Posse Country this summer and we wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. You guys make us feel right at home and we appreciate everything. I can’t wait to get back. Thanks, everyone.”
Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will unveil future plans in the coming days. Nothing has been disclosed, but those curious to find out more should keep up on all of Abreu’s social media outlets.
