Column: Corbin Millar Checks-In For 2020 Northeast Fall Nationals At Brockville
Column By: JIM CLARKE / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – Even though the Coronavirus Pandemic has forced changes to the scheduling of this weekend’s Northeast Fall Nationals at Brockville Speedway, it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of Small Block Modified racer Corbin Millar.
Carrying the same number that his father Charlie campaigned during his career in the former CASCAR Series, the 26-year-old, second-generation runner from Perth, Ontario is ready for action.
No stranger to success in some of the sport’s biggest events, Millar scored a pair of 4-cylinder victories during the Outlaw 200 Weekend at Fulton Speedway and was Mini Stock track champion at Brockville in 2014. After starting the year in the Rookie Sportsman division at Mohawk International Raceway in 2018 he moved to the 358 Modifieds and was named Rookie of the Year.
“This is always an exciting show and draws so many different teams to the track, you can’t help but share in enthusiasm,” Corbin Millar said. “There have been some bumps in the road during the 2020 season, but we’ve worked hard to make sure our equipment is ready for the biggest event on the local racing calendar.”
While most racers look forward to the next show on the calendar, Corbin Millar considers himself fortunate to still be part of the sport. Being involved in a passenger car crash in 2017 led to some serious injuries that saw him hospitalized in Kingston for a couple of weeks. During the time that other racers and teams were dealing with their schedules being curtailed because of COVID-19, Millar was recuperating from a second surgery required after his accident and is ready to get back into action.
“I feel better now than I have in a while and I can’t wait see how things will go this weekend,” Millar confided. “It would be nice to wrap-up what can best be described as a strange season with some good racing luck at our home track. The only way it would be better is if more than 100 fans could be there to see it.
Corbin Millar’s No. 66M Bicknell Racing Products chassis is backed by the family business Trailer Country. The driver – who in addition to working at the family business, serves his community as a volunteer firefighter – says he appreciates the contribution his father, mother and sister make to his race team. Even his girlfriend Julia makes it to as many races as she can when she isn’t working or attending university.
“I like spending time with my family and friends. Competition on the track pushes me to try harder and get better with each race,” Millar said. “Lately I’ve been spending time with my nephew Keaton, racing on the simulator. I’m grooming him to be the next generation of DIRTcar racer.”
