Column: Brockville’s NE Fall Nationals Freshman Tim McColman Eyes Vintage Mod Win
Column By: JIM CLARKE / BROCKVILLE ONTARIO SPEEDWAY – BROCKVILLE, ONT – His resume already includes accolades for his performance in go kart and motocross racing, but there is nothing Tim McColman would rather do than add the hardware from a Northeast Fall Nationals win to the trophy case.
In just his 2nd season of racing with the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club, the 34-year-old from Kingston, Ontario will be making his first career start – October 2nd and 3rd – in the popular season-ending event at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
Tim McColman – who works as a sales and leasing professional at Subaru of Kingston – spent his 2019 season travelling with the Eastern Ontario Vintage Stock Car Club and Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tours. His No. 20 coupe, a tribute to former Kingston and Brockville Speedway track champion Walter Pennock earned a handful of main event wins at various tracks and was named 2019 Vintage Super Series 50/60’s Champion.
“Running with the Vintage clubs, we get to visit all the best tracks around,” McColman said. “Every place we go, I try to stay positive and keep the hammer down. I don’t think there is any better kind of racing on a budget than you’ll find with the various vintage clubs. I love running a hard race against another driver and then giving each other a big thumbs up after the checkered flag.”
Away from the track, Tim McColman says he enjoys off-roading in his RZR, drone flying, paintball, motocross, mountain biking and fishing. The Sydenham High School graduate is lucky to have a number of family members and friends to support his racing efforts, including his parents Garry and Angie McColman, Derrick and Tracey Larlee, Greg Hale, Jon Aarssen, Joe Nickel, Brian Powley, Diane Park and Chris and Mike Raabe. Behind the scenes and at the track, Garry McColman, Brandon Lamon and Mike Raabe make sure the No. 09T 1979 AMC Spirit is ready for battle.
The team is proudly supported by Kids For Kids Kingston, McColman Media, Colebrook Auto Services, CSN Kingston Collision, Draper Doors, Pro Strip Traffic Lines, Krown Rust Control, Double A-Ron Designs and Fat Bastard Fabrication.
“I’m looking forward to the chance to participate in a high profile event like Brockville Speedway’s upcoming Northeast Fall Nationals,” admitted the driver. “Its unfortunate that provincial restrictions have limited the number of spectators that will be there to see such an amazing weekend of racing but we’ll have some fun and put on a great show.”
