Rico Abreu Finds Success With World Of Outlaws During Knoxville’s ‘One & Only’
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / RICO ABREU RACING – ST. HELENA, CA – Rico Abreu’s three-day visit to the Sprint Car Capital of the World ended nothing short of impressive, not only capping the One & Only/Capitani Classic weekend with a top-ten performance during the $50,000-to-win finale, but kicking-off the summer blockbuster with a 15th-place result during Thursday’s preliminary, followed by a top-five outcome during Friday’s preliminary.
Abreu qualified for Saturday’s $50,000-to-win headliner with a victory during his respective feature qualifier. Lining up seventh on the A-Main grid, Abreu drove on to finish ninth, his 24th top-ten finish of the 2020 season.
“It was a fun weekend for our team. Obviously, our goal is to battle our way to the front and contend for a win, no matter where we race, but to put up numbers like that, against that level of competition, says so much about our team. Knoxville is a special place and we can’t wait to get back,” Rico Abreu said, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Priority Aviation/Self Made Racing/Dancer Logistics/Salty’s BBQ/Whistle Stop Bar & Grill/Wiser Golf/Stadelhofer Construction/No. 24 sprint car. “It was great to see everyone and connect with all of my fans. That’s just as rewarding as racing up front. I want to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our team all weekend, especially during these crazy times. We couldn’t do what we do without the loving support from our fans and, of course, our partners.”
Abreu ignited his weekend at Knoxville Raceway with a 15th-place finish during preliminary main event competition on Thursday. The St. Helena, California-native then one-upped his Thursday night performance with a near-perfect campaign on Friday, first finishing third from sixth during heat race competition, followed by a runner-up result in the evening’s dash. Abreu went on to finish fourth during the evening’s main event, forced to battle wheel to wheel with the nation’s leading winner, Kyle Larson.
