Column: Brockville Ontario Speedway Looking Forward To Better Days Ahead
Column By: JIM CLARKE – BROCKVILLE, ONT – After a successful run to mark the track’s 50th anniversary, Brockville Ontario Speedway officials were looking forward to kicking-off one season where the other had left off.
Plans were made for opening night and the inclusion of the 1000 Islands RV Crate Sprint division and a special series for the 358 Modifieds that would see the use of sail panels for selected events. Little did anyone know that 2020 would become the year that kept everyone guessing.
Effects of the Coronavirus Pandemic put everything on hold, but midway through May practice sessions were allowed and after a break to allow for some new clay to be added the racing surface, the provincial recovery process saw the year’s first event – with a maximum of 100 spectators in the grandstand – Saturday, July 18th. A couple of weeks later, a second show – following the same parameters – gave competitors home of running an abbreviated schedule. Track owner and promoter Paul Kirkland says it felt good to be back in business.
“Our promotional team did a lot behind the scenes and it all paid-off when we opened the gates for the pair of events,” Kirkland explained. “It was great to see so many familiar faces and even welcome so new friends to the Brockville Ontario Speedway family.”
Officials at The BOS announced that there will be an event with the Small Block Modifieds, Sportsman-Mods, Novice Sportsman, Vintage Modifieds, Street Tocks and Mini Stocks – presented by Nature’s Reality Botanical Blends and Steve Polite Sand & Gravel – Saturday, August 15th. Gerald Tallman Holdings will welcome the Sportsman-Modifieds, Rookie Sportsman, 1000 Islands RV Crate Sprints, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks Saturday, August 22nd. Complete information – including registration process and ticket lottery procedures – can be found on the track’s Facebook and Twitter social media platforms.
“We’ll also have shows Saturday, August 29th and September 5th with details to follow,” Paul Kirkland said. “Fans will be happy to know that we’ve come-up with a revised schedule for the Dirt Outlaw Apparel Fall Nationals. The 2 day event will now be Friday, October 2nd with the DIRTcar Sportsman-Modifieds, Street Stocks and Vintage Mods. DIRTcar 358 Modifieds will be the headline class Saturday, October 3rd for a show that also features Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and the Action Sprint Tour. Ticket details and more information is still to come.”
