Danny Bouc Opens New Egypt’s Season With Victory In Firecracker 40 Modified Feature

Story By: MIKE WISNIEWSKI / NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY – NEW EGYPT, NJ – At New Egypt Speedway’s fourth annual Firecracker 40, Danny Bouc won the Vahlco Wheels Modified feature. Sammy Martz Jr. topped the field in the Ice Less Crate Modified feature. The main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars presented by the Meat Shoppe was taken by Jeremy Quick. Joe Garey Sr. was victorious in the 4-Cylinder contest. The Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman race was captured by Paul Mancini.

As the season opening 40-lap Vahlco Modified feature got underway, polesitter Wade Hendrickson hustled to the front with Mike Butler, Matt Stangle, Danny Bouc and Dominick Buffalino in tow. Following a caution period on the second tour, Hendrickson remained in control on the restart with Butler in second, Bouc shifting up to third, Billy Pauch Jr. advancing into fourth and Buffalino in fifth. On lap five, Pauch edged closer to the front as he passed Bouc for third. On the ninth revolution, action came to a halt as flames appeared on Chris Grbac’s ride. When action resumed, Hendrickson was still on top but Pauch slipped by Butler for second. Blaine Bracelin’s slowing car illuminated the yellow lights again on the tenth circuit. On the ensuing resumption, Pauch charged past Hendrickson to take the lead. Pauch was building up his margin over the pack when racing came to stop for a lap sixteen incident involving Cale Ross and Dominick Buffalino. After the green flag waved once more, Pauch was still on top with Bouc in second and Hendrickson in third. On lap nineteen, a slowing Ross on the speedway caused another brief stoppage in the action. As racing returned, a mechanical failure slowed Pauch and Bouc bolted to the lead as Pauch retired from the event. By lap twenty-five, Bouc was heading the field with Davey Sammons running in second and Frank Cozze in third. With ten laps remaining, Sammons had cut into Bouc’s advantage with Cozze, Butler and Buffalino next in line. On lap thirty-six, the final caution flag waved for a left front flat on Brandon Grosso’s car. Following the single file restart, Bouc held off Sammons for the remaining laps to rack up his twelfth career win at New Egypt Speedway. Sammons crossed the line in second and Cozze finished in third. With Butler slowing on the final lap, Buffalino came home in fourth and thirteenth place starting Dakota Kessler completed the top five. The Vahlco Wheels Modified heats were taken by Davey Sammons, JR Fulper and Mike Butler.

After taking the lead on the sixth circuit, Sammy Martz Jr. held off challenges from his rivals to earn his first career New Egypt Speedway win in the 20-lap Ice Less Crate Modified feature. Martz started the contest in ninth. Dan Fleming, who led the opening five tours claimed the runner-up spot. Anthony Tramontana was third. Johnny Bangs finished in fourth after starting the race in sixteenth. Fifth place went to Jon Meyer. Qualifying race winners in the Ice Less Crate Modified division were Jeremy Martino, Dan Fleming and Sammy Martz Jr. Ryan Heim was the victor in the consolation event.

In the 20-lap main event for the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars presented by the Meat Shoppe, Jeremy Quick was the victor in his first ever visit to New Egypt Speedway. Quick paced the field from start to finish. 2019 track champion Rich Mellor finished in second. Brian Spencer was third with Heidi Hedin in fourth and Mark Bitner grabbing fifth. Rich Mellor and Mark Bitner won the Larry’s Hot Rods & Harley’s Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars heat races.

Joe Garey Sr., the 2019 track champion, led every step of the way to win the 15-lap 4-Cylinder feature. Justin Dunn followed Garey across the finish line to take the runner-up spot. Tim Jones completed the race in third. Dominic Antonelli and John Ciallella rounded out the top five.

In the 8-lap feature for the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman, Paul Mancini wired the field to claim the checkered flag. Amanda Buchel came home in second. Jimmy Avery overtook Mason Magee on the final tour to capture third place.
