RPW Exclusive Column: Southern Super Modified Series And STSS Team Up For November $20K Season Finale
COLUMN BY: ROBERT SYMONDS/RPW – CHATHAM, LA – Nearly a week after the checkered flag flew for the Southern Super Modified Series event ‘Return From Corona 75’ at the Chatham Speedway, a new special event was announced exclusively on social media for November.
The ‘Return from the Corona 75’ proved to be a momentous event for Chatham Speedway and dirt modified racing in the south. Drivers such as Jessica Friesen, Matt Sheppard, Larry Wight, Stewart Friesen, and Jack Lehner made the trip south and became exciting for the fully packed grandstand crowd. How full? For comparison…”Matt Sheppard, in a recent interview, said it was nearly the same size crowd as a World of Outlaws show,” Brandon Hightower mentioned in a phone interview on Thursday night.
The successes of this past weekend seemed to help create synergy between the Southern Super Modified Series owner Brandon Hightower and the Short Track Super Series owner Brett Deyo. The result, you may ask, is the creation of the Inaugural ‘Mods In The Marsh 100’ event which will be a $20,000 to win 100 lap series event held at the Chatham Speedway in Louisiana.
“Brett (Deyo) and I tried to schedule an event earlier in the off season but nothing seemed right for timing,” said Hightower. “After last weekend, we worked again to find a good weekend and landed on November 13th and 14th.”
Though the final schedule won’t be released until a little closer to November, a rough timeline will see hot laps and heat events on Friday November 13th with BMains and the 100 lap feature event on Saturday November 14th. Hightower also mentioned that he is working on a couple satellite events as well to prelude the Mods In The Marsh event.
This event should be on everyone’s list for an end of the year special with the Southern Super Modified Series hosting the Short Track Super Series at the Chatham Speedway.
