RPW Column: Chatham Speedway Hosts 10K To Win Southern Super Modified Series ‘Return From The Corona 75’
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – CHATHAM, LA – The first weekend back for the Southern Super Modified Series will be a BIG event. The ‘Return From The Corona 75’ will be a 75 lap $10,000 to win Big Block/Small Block Modified event at the Chatham Speedway in Louisiana presented by APE Advanced Performance Engines.
The Southern Super Modified Series began just this season to race in states like Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. With some of the events scratched or postponed because of COVID-19, one of the series directors Brandon Hightower decided to have a huge event for their return to racing. After working with other directors and the Chatham Speedway, it was decided that it would be hosted on Saturday May 30 with practice and time trials for the Modifieds to be on Friday May 29.
“It is super exciting to have this event,” Hightower mentioned in a phone call on Tuesday morning. “This event wouldn’t be happening if it weren’t for the Chatham Speedway and our sponsor APE Engines.”
The Southern Super Modified Series utilizes the Short Track Super Series rules but for the Return From The Corona 75 event, the Southern Super Modified Series will also allow Hoosier tires. The event all starts with registration right at the track.
Unofficially the series is also working on additional events for Thursday and Sunday of the same week. Please stay tuned to Race Pro Weekly for more information.
