Merrittville Speedway Practice Sessions Given Green Light; First Set To Roll May 23rd With Restrictions

Story By: STEVEN PETTY / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – Joining other tracks throughout the province of Ontario, Merrittville Speedway was successful at petitioning the government and are now permitted to open for track days starting Saturday, May 23.

This permission comes with restrictions on the volume of participants and NO SPECTATORS will be admitted in the grandstands.

“We do understanding that contending with the Covid-19 pandemic has been very stressful on everyone and we have worked hard with other tracks, and the government officials to get “Back to the Track”, comments track owners Don & Lorraine Spiece. Step one of the phased opening included opening Ontario Motorsports facilities for track days or practice sessions but under strict guidelines for the safety of staff and participants.

The first of these sessions will take place on Saturday, May 23. Gates and tech will open at 3 pm, with practice set to take place from 6-9 pm with everyone leaving the facility by 9:30 pm. Drivers and crews (max. of 5 people per car) can pre-register and pay by emailing lorraines.merrittvillespeedway@gmail.com Once a driver is pre-registered, they will be emailed further instructions on waivers and protocols. Only drivers and crews that have pre-registered can be on the property.

Everyone is asked to practice safe social distancing with face coverings recommended. For a full list of guidelines that must be followed as established by the Ministry of Labour and the Health Unit, go to www.merrittvillespeedway.com Any team not following these guidelines will be removed from the premises and option to return may be prohibited.

Please understand we are doing all that we are allowed and the understanding and cooperation from fans are needed in order to be successful. If we sell out and you do not make the first list for this session please don’t fret as we will have more of these in the coming weeks.
