Fonda Speedway’s 2020 Season Opener Will Have To Wait Until May Due To COVID-19 Concerns
Story By: BRETT DEYO / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – The 2020 season at Fonda Speedway will have to wait until May.
Following a virtual Fonda Fair Board meeting, held via Conference Call on Wednesday evening, it was announced no activities would take place on the fairgrounds during the month of April – including auto racing – to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
As a result, the 2020 Season Opener at the Track of Champions will be postponed until Saturday, May 2.
The season had been slated to kick-start on April 11 with Open Practice, followed by back-to-back racing events on April 18 and 25.
As stated previously by the BD Motorsports Media LLC management team, this is an unprecedented and constantly changing situation. Make-up dates will be scheduled as needed with the full support of the Fonda Fair Board.
“We need to let this whole situation play out,” speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “Once we get the ‘green light’ to go racing, we will make schedule adjustments to ensure our season pass holders, marketing partners, fans and competitors are able to enjoy the ‘Track of Champions’ as frequently as possible.
“No one is more anxious to go racing then us (the Fonda promotional group). We made a $65,000-plus investment in the new surface. We can’t wait to put race cars on it and see the results.”
Keep posted to the speedway website and social media channels for further information.
