Williams Grove Speedway 2020 Schedule Released; Season Opener Set For March 15th
Story By: SHAWN BROUSE / WILLIAMS GROVE SPEEDWAY – MECHANICSBURG, PA – Williams Grove Speedway has announced its 2020 schedule of events featuring 31 race dates that showcase the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars in every outing.
The 2020 season opener featuring 410 sprint cars only is slated for Sunday afternoon, March 15 at 2 pm.
But that will not be the last “sprints only” program on the 2020 slate of races, as three more big shows with simply sprints will be featured.
“The Big Three” of 2020 when only the 410 sprints will appear will take place on April 17 when the All Stars stage the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic, July 3 for the 32nd annual PA Speedweek Mitch Smith Memorial and on August August 28 when the All Stars return for the Jack Gunn Memorial Twin 20s.
“The Big Three” are sure to be can’t miss events in 2020.
The unlimited, full-body super late models, once a regularly appearing division at the track, will see an uptick in their appearances at Williams Grove Speedway next season with a total of six races on the agenda.
Two of the races will be sanctioned by the popular ULMS Late Model Series, taking place on March 20 and again on April 10 while the World of Outlaws Late Models will sanction a $10,000 to win event on August 21.
Other super late model races will hit the track on March 27, August 7 and on June 5 when the PA Super Late Model Challenge Series is staged.
The HJ Towing & Recovery 358 sprint cars will be featured on 10 occasions at the track again in 2020 with the division kicking off action on April 24 running through September 25.
The USAC Silver Crown Series will return to the track for the second year in a row, along with the 410 sprints, on June 12.
More USAC action at the track this season will include the USAC East Wingless 360 Sprints, taking part in a new program early in the season as the “Spring Sprint Special” roars to life on April 3.
The April 3 show will feature the 410 sprints, the USAC East Wingless 360 Sprints and the PASS/IMCA 305 sprint cars in a rare three-division, all open wheel program of high-flying action.
The World of Outlaws sprint cars come to Williams Grove for a total of six events including the regular two-day May and July stands along with the two-day, 58th annual National Open on October 2 and 3.
The October 3 National Open will again pay a whopping $65,000 to the winner and will crown the 2020 Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint car track champion.
Champion Racing Oil returns to sponsor the entire National Open weekend in 2020 as well as the Summer Nationals on July 24 and 25.
H & N Landscaping will present the World of Outlaws sprint cars at Williams Grove on May 15 and 16.
The All Star Circuit of Champions sprints will appear in a trio of shows including the previously stated Tommy Classic and Gunn Memorial along with the Dirt Classic Qualifier on September 18.
The United Racing Club 360 c.i. sprints have two dates inked on the 2020 schedule, one in conjunction with ASCS.
May 1 will find the oval taking part in the third running of The Battle Of The Groves event, featuring Friday racing at Williams Grove and Saturday racing at Selinsgrove Speedway for both URC and the nationally popular ASCS 360 sprints.
The 10-race Hoosier Diamond Series will again be staged at Williams Grove in 2020 with a champion of the series declared based on performances in select increased purse races during the year.
Also returng for another run in 2020 will be the lucrative Yellow Breeches 500 races, with each of five races paying $500 just to start.
The Diamond Series will serve to honor a pair of icons in the sport in 2020 when legendary mechanic Davey Brown is honored with the Brown Tribute Race on May 22 while legendary Apple. No. 12 car owner Bob Stewart is honored in the Stewart Tribute Race on September 4.
The Pennsylvania Speedweek Series will visit Williams Grove Speedway for a pair of shows, on June 26 for the series opener and on July 3 for the $15,000 to win Mitch Smith Memorial.
Sponsored by Hoseheads.com, Kids Easter Night and Fan Appreciation Night will again be on the itinerary in 2020 with free pre-race front pit access for general admission fans as part of Fan Appreciation Night on June 19.
