Super Stocks Division Added To Mohawk International’s Weekly Racing Schedule For ’20
Story By: TIM BALTZ / MOHAWK INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY – HOGANSBURG, NY – The 2011 season marked the debut of a new division at MIR called the Mod Lite class. Since then the division has provided some incredible moments and cemented themselves as one of the premier classes in the history of the speedway.
In 2020 the Super Stock division sponsored by Status Design Shop out of Plattsburgh who specializes in apparel printing, signage business and printing services, will be making their debut as a weekly class to start the new year. Drivers in the division had a meeting recently with the staff and management at Mohawk which saw a great turn out of drivers, who said they would be with us on a regular basis and the decision was made to bring the division in.
These machines are the former Renegade class which competed on the asphalt in Plattsburgh and with the track’s switch to dirt in 2017, a few modifications were made and the class continued as the Super Stocks. Morrisonville New York’s Shawn Duquette claimed the track title by 14 points last season at Plattsburgh over rival Tyler Terry from Dannemora New York and both won three races. Zack Daniels won three times in the division last year with Michael Wright taking 2 checkered flags, Josh Terry, who will compete full time in 2020, collected 1 win with Jim McKiernan collecting the most wins with 5. These are just a few of the drivers to keep your eye on when the division takes the green flag along with possible entries from current drivers at Mohawk as well.
With the extra division comes the need to expand the pit area as well. In the spring Mohawk International Raceway will be making some changes, adding more space in the pits to accommodate the number of cars expected in 2020, along with the new Status Design Shop Super Stocks.
More changes are expected to come to the speedway for the upcoming season.
