Kerry Madsen Sets WoO Quick Time Before Rain Washes Out Nittany Showdown Finale
Story By: SHAWN MILLER / BIG GAME MOTORSPORTS – PORT ROYAL, PA – Kerry Madsen left the Nittany Showdown with a smile on his face last Saturday at Port Royal Speedway.
The KI Crossbows sponsored Big Game Motorsports driver set quick time in his group and was tied for the quickest time in World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series qualifying out of the 48 competitors racing at the half-mile oval. It was his second quick time of the season with the World of Outlaws.
Unfortunately, rain began falling before heat race competition and washed out the remainder of the night.
“It was a rocket ship,” Madsen said of his sprint car. “We were disappointed it rained out, but we were happy to come out and be quick time after the night before. It’s a new car and it felt pretty good. That should translate well to Charlotte in a couple weeks.”
The stout qualifying effort was a huge difference from Friday’s Nittany Showdown opener.
“We had a mechanical issue and something wasn’t quite right,” Madsen said. “It happened on the opening lap of qualifying and we got no time. If there was a smaller amount of cars you would have replaced it and started at the back. But with that field and track we were better off to figure out what happened and make sure it was right for Saturday.”
The team scratched from the remainder of Friday’s program.
The season is scheduled to conclude Nov. 7-9 at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., during the Can-Am World Finals with the World of Outlaws.
