Story By: STEVEN PETTY / BEI LIGHTNING SERIES – EAST CONCORD, NY – As the saying goes, “lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice”. That is not the case as Port Colborne, Ontario’s Chad Chevalier was crowned the 2019 Bellinger Electric Inc. (BEI) Lightning Series Champion for the third consecutive season.
In total, 82 different drivers participated in the five race series, more than any other regional touring series in 2019.
Chevalier earned two straight wins to end the season at the Sean Letts Memorial at Ransomville Speedway the Baron Roofing/Bobcat of Hamilton 30 at Merrittville Speedway in August to earn him the series title. The Port Colborne, Ontario driver edged out James Michael Friesen by four points for the coveted title. Ransomville Speedway divisional champion Brett Senek was third in points followed by Brad Rouse and Jim Harbison. Former Series champion Kyle Inman was sixth in points and was followed by Garrison Krentz, Noah Walker, Derrick Borkenhagen, and Trevor Wright.
The 2019 season began with Kyle Inman winning at Freedom Motorsports Park. Cody McPherson would come out of retirement to score the win at New Humberstone. Inman would earn his second of the year by winning the Tim Downs Memorial at Genesee. Then Chevalier would win the final two races at Merrittville and Ransomville to wrap up the season.
