RPW EXCLUSIVE: Scott McCoy Claims First Victory at Glen Ridge
Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – GLEN RIDGE, NY – Oh how sweet it was, as second generation driver was able to claim his first victory on the fastest 1/4 mile track on Dirt at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.
It was a night where two rookies would battle it out for their first career win in the 602 Crate Modified feature. It was a matter of who would come out on top.
Ryan Heath and Scott McCoy, rookies of the division brought the fourteen car field to the green and it was Heath that gained control getting a great start to grab the lead. But the son of Al McCoy was not going to let Heath steal the show as he kept the No. 6H in his sights.
As the 30 lap feature was clicking down in laps, McCoy was reeling in the leader. As the duo went into turns one and two, pressure from McCoy rattled the leaders cage… McCoy was thinking game on.
As Heath went into turn one, he looped his car midway through the corner, bringing the caution out and handing the lead over to the determined McCoy.
McCoy who looked strong all night would go on to capture his first career win in the “Red Chair” 602 Crate Modified feature.
Coming home in second was Andrew Buff, with Rocky Warner, Joe Orlando and Brendon Gibbons completing the top five.
Mike Ketchum made his return back to the Ridge coming home in a seventh place finish after many years being away from the track.
Former limited Sportsman Champion Micheal Jackson also made his first appearance back to the track coming in fourteenth place.
Congratulations to female driver Sloan Cherko for picking up her first career victory as she dominated the 12 lap Jr slingshot event holding off all challengers.
After moving up from the Jr Slingshots where this driver was Champion, with only a few races under his belt in the limited Sportsman the youngster, Garrett Poland won his first open wheeled victory.
Andy Graves made it two in a row as he would go on to capture the victory over Luke Horning who would come from ninth position.
Mike Hill would make a dramatic last lap pass over Brett Putnam to go onto claim the always exciting Sr. Slingshot feature.
