Racing Wars Escalate At OCFS Thursday; Weekly Competitors Vs. Super DIRTcar Series In ‘Battle Of The Midway 100’

Story By: ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY – MIDDLETOWN, NY – The traveling racing warriors of the Super DIRTcar Modified Series (SDS) roll into town Thursday, July 18 ready to battle the weekly Big-Block Modified competitors on the five-eighths-mile Orange County Fair Speedway’s Hard Clay track.

It’s the “Battle of the Midway” headlined by a 100-lap, $10,000-to-win feature race that’s bound to have fans spell-bound from green flag to checkered flag with high-speed drama and excitement.

This will be just the second racing program on the five-eighths-mile speedway’s newly-installed clay surface, so neither the outside invaders nor the Orange County weekly competitors will have an advantage.

Among the Super DIRTcar Series star drivers are Matt Sheppard, the Northeast’s biggest winner, Stewart Friesen, last year’s Orange County SDS victor, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, and Billy Decker.

They’ll face off against Orange County’s own top drivers, including current point leader Brett Hearn, who is both the all-time winner of the Super DIRTcar Series as well as Orange County’s Modified division; former track champion Tommy Meier; perennial challenger Craig Mitchell; young Anthony Perrego, the 2018 Modified champion; and Jerry Higbie, also a former track titlist, weekly racing Modified corps who are no strangers to Victory Lane.

But they’ll be up against three dozen or more other top racers, each looking for victory in the biggest Super DIRTcar Series race of the mid-summer.

Group time trials, heat and consolation races will set the field for the 100-lap feature races.

Special admission prices will be in effect for this fair date race meet. Reserved seating is available.
