RPW Exclusive: Warner’s Hot Streak Continues At The Ridge; Wins Three Sunday; Varin Also Wins
Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – FULTONVILLE, NY – The Modifieds returned to the little track on the hill, the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park as it would be double the fun. Also slated on the nights card would be double features for the 602 Crate Modifieds.
First of two twenty five lap Modified main events Bobby Varin would bring the field down to the Green with Randy Green sitting on the outside pole.Varin in the Palmers Service would jump out to the lead with Rocky Warner following in tow with Brown and Green. As Varin would set the pace
Warner would try his luck on the outside, as Varin was not giving any openings on the bottom of the track. Warner would shift gears to the outsider.
It would not take long for Warner to realize his car was not to his licking and would slip up the track. This was all Jackie Brown Jr. needed to get by for second position. and would try to
challenge Varin for the lead. The top five cars were settled in on their spots they were running.
One car that was gaining was Mike Ricci who coming from his ninth starting spot was making a late race charge as he would take over the fourth position on the low side. The leaders would run into lap traffic on lap 22 but Varin would go onto the smooth victory. He was followed by Brown, Warner, Ricci and Randy Green “I new Rocky was fast and I was a little scared so I just tried to stay on the bottom grove” Varin stated.
But at the time Varin didn’t realize it was Brown lurking in second.
Round two of the Modified feature go around would see Jackie Brown and Bobby Varin bring the field down for the second leg of the Twenty five lap feature.
Varin would take the lead but a fast paced Warner was on the move from his third place start. Varin would hold the lead until lap thirteen and that’s when the “Flying Squirrel” had his Jake Spraker 1J rolling to the outside. Warner would test the waters once again on the outside.
Question was, did his crew make the right adjustments that was needed to make the car stick on the outside. Unlike the first feature. Well! They did as Warner would peddle around Varin and take over the number one spot and put it on cruise control.
A last lap caution had the leader scrambling with a car spinning in his sites. Could Varin running second out duel Warner on the restart? Rocky’s car was to strong and would capture the win over Varin. The late restart helped Ricci as he was able to take over third with Brown and Green.
Rocky Warner would sweep both 602 Crate Modified events which one of them was very special to Warner was the Jason Morrison Memorial. The race was in honor of a life long friendship and someone very special to Warner.
Ivan Joslin would grab the win from Andy Graves as the rookie spun in turn four going for the checkers.
Mike Hill would capture the Allstar Slingshot feature while Brock Pinkerous brought home the Jr.Slingshot.
Mini stock feature winners were Josh kane duel cam winner and Wayne Russell for the single cam.
Damon Anderson would take the win for the Street Stock division. Winning the limited Sportsman was Jerry Cohn.
