Fonda Speedway Holding “Graduation Night” This Saturday At “Track Of Champions”

Story By: RON SZCZERBA / FONDA SPEEDWAY – FONDA, NY – Another special racing program will take place at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway this Saturday, June 22 when track management honors the Class of 2019 on “Graduation Night” in recognition of the 2019 High School Graduates.

On the racing card, which begins at 7:00 p.m., will be the Sunoco Modifieds, the Swagger Factory Apparel 602 Crate Sportsman, the Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman, the Algonkin Motel Pro Stocks (a Best of 8 Series event presented by American Racer Tire), the Trackside Body Works Street Stocks, the Four Cylinder Cruisers, and the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series (MVVDMS).

This will also be a special night for the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series and for one former competitor at the Fonda Speedway, the “Rock City Falls Rocket” Jack Cottrell as the MVVDMS honors Cottrell with the “Jack Cottrell Classic”.

Cottrell will be on hand to sign autographs at the Fonda Speedway Museum at 3:30 p.m. and will be signing a truly unique poster of different times during his racing career, which was created by Jack’s wife Debbie Cottrell.

There will be a special presentation made to Cottrell on Checkerboard Square before the nights racing activities begin and he will be pacing the MVVDMS field to the green flag for the start of their feature events. He will also be presenting trophies to all the Vintage Series winners after their feature events are completed.

Cottrell himself visited the “Checkerboard Square” at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway a total of 14 times, 11 times in a Late Model type car and three times in a Modified with his first career win in the Modified coming on 9/26/1981 and his final win in the division coming on 4/17/1999. He also has two Track Championships at the Fonda Speedway during his racing career, one in the Late Model division in 1979 and one in the 358-Modified division in 1999.
