Stewart Friesen, Max McLaughlin Set To Run Monday At Weedsport Speedway

Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / WEEDSPORT SPEEDWAY – WEEDSPORT, NY – An already stellar Super DIRTcar Series lineup received a boost on Wednesday morning as NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series championship contender, Stewart Friesen, announced he will join NASCAR K&N Pro Series East pilot, Max McLaughlin, for the Heroes Remembered 100 at Weedsport Speedway on Monday, May 27.

WeReturn edsport’s 2019 season lid lifter will pay $7,500 to the winner of the 100-lap Modified special featuring series regulars Matt Sheppard, Mat Williamson, Billy Dunn, Justin Haers, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Danny Johnson, Billy Decker, Erick Rudolph, Brett Hearn, Tim Fuller, Mike Mahaney and more.

“Having these guys return to compete on the series for this event says a lot about our program,” said Weedsport Speedway Promoter, Jimmy Phelps. “Every event at Weedsport is a must win and the Heroes Remembered 100 has quickly risen to a high caliber race on everyone’s schedule. We’re excited to get things underway on Memorial Day.”

Local pilots such as Dave Marcuccilli, Chris Hile, Chad Phelps and Andrew Ferguson are among those chomping at the bit to have a chance at the best in Modified racing.

Friesen currently rides second in the NASCAR Gander Outdoor Truck Series point standings in 2019 with several top runs including four Top 5 finishes.

Last year, Friesen outdueled McLaughlin to the checkered flag to claim victory hill in the 2018 running of the Heroes Remembered 100.

McLaughlin is currently sixth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings with two Top 5 finishes in four starts.

‘Mad Max’ hopes he can rekindle his success at Weedsport from a year ago as he hunts down his first career Super DIRTcar Series victory.

Monday’s event will also mark the first of five Stirling Lubricants/ Champion Racing Oil Modified Series events, offering up more than $36,000 in winner’s cash including a $2,000 championship bonus.

Pit gates will open on Monday at 3 p.m. with grandstand gates swinging open at 4 p.m. Racing action is slated to take place at 6 p.m.

Reserved seating is set at $32 with FREE Fan Pit Pass Upgrades available through May 23.

General admission seating for adults is $28, with kids 11-17 $12. Kids 10 and under are FREE.

DIRTcar Member pit admission is $32, non-member pit admission is $36.

Reserved camping is available for $30 with general camping marked at $24. Camping in The Great Outdoors RV Campgrounds now includes a host of amenities including all-new shower and restroom facilities.
