Port Royal Moves To 7pm Start Time For This Saturday Night’s Racing Action
Story By: JUSTIN SNYDER / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – Coming off a big weekend that featured three separate Open Wheel divisions and 3 new winners, Port Royal Speedway returns to racing May 4 with a jam-packed schedule. This will serve as the first race of the season where racxing begins at it’s summer hours of 7 pm.
First, the Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprint Cars will be featured as usual and Logan Wagner, coming off his first win of the season, will be looking to go back-to-back and further pad his point lead as he looks to win the point championship for the second consecutive year.
Once again the Sprint Cars will race for a $4000 winners share, but there will not be an increase in general admission. Wagner currently leads the points by 60 markers over Dylan Cisney and Blane Heimbach currently sits 100 points back in 3rd place.
Second on the card will be the debut of the Grit House Route 35 Challenge Series Late Models racing for $3000. The series, for the fourth consecutive season, showcases a six-race Challenge Series for the Super Late Model drivers between the Selinsgove Speedway and Port Royal Speedway. Each track will host 3 events.
Last week was set to be the kick-off for the series at Selinsgrove, however rain claimed the event and this will serve as the opener for the series. For the last 2 seasons the point championship was claimed by Port Royal regulars Coleby Frye (2017) and Andy Haus (2018) and the speedway’s River Valley Builders regulars will be looking to continue the trend in 2019.
Finally the Juniata Junction Restaurant Xtreme Stocks will make their second appearance of 2019. Brad Mitch claimed the series first victory of 2019 earlier in the season and currently sits atop the point standings by 15 points over Pete Leister.
