Linc Brown Logs a Top 5 Finish in His Dirt Track Racing Debut
Story By: JIM CLARKE / BRIGHTON SPEEDWAY – BRIGHTON, ONT. CA – Even with close to 3 decades of racing experience to draw from, at Brighton Speedway, he’s still classified as a rookie. After spending his entire career competing on pavement, Linc Brown made his dirt track debut in the Canadian Modified division at the local 3rd of a mile clay raceway. The 53-year-old father of 2 from Colborne, Ontario knows he’s facing a steep learning curve, but is excited about the challenge.
“I got some track time during the Test & Tune Session a week ago and about a handful of hot laps prior to the Saturday, May 11th opening night, but that’s all,” Linc Brown said. “It was good to see that some of my asphalt racing skills have transferred to the dirt, but I still really don’t know what I’m doing. There’ll be a lot of ground to cover and I’m going into the season with an empty notebook and an open mind.”
Starting at the tail-end of his qualifying heat, the driver of the #99 machine managed to pick-off a couple positions and finished 5th in the 7 car field. Back at the rear of the pack because of his rookie status to start the night’s feature event, Brown logged a top 5 finish out of 13 cars. Other than a jingle that resulted in some extensive body damage and an engine that developed a stumble, he was able to keep up some speed and gave his performance a ‘thumbs-up’, saying it was a satisfying introduction.
“I think we surprised some people; including ourselves,” the driver admitted. “It was great to have the support of some friends and family members who made the trip. The track announcer gave the team quite a bit of air-time – likely because of our 27 years of asphalt experience – so that was good exposure for our sponsorship partners.”
Brown is happy to announce that ABC Taxi has come on-board to support this year’s Brighton Speedway effort, joining existing backers Kawartha Metals, Sine’s Flooring, Grafton Automotive, Mayhew Graphics, Gates Race Design and Clarke Motorsports Communications.
Linc Brown and the No. 99 team will return to race action Saturday, May 25th at Brighton Speedway. Next on the agenda will be an appearance at the Customer Appreciation Barbecue – Saturday and Sunday, May 25th and 26th – at Sine’s Flooring, 23 George Street in Brighton.
