Batman’s A Bottom Feeder; Britten Uses Low Line At Lebanon Valley To Get Fourth Saturday

Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / PETER BRITTEN RACING – WEEDSPORT, NY – Peter Britten has taken a liking to the Lebanon Valley Speedway. Well, if you saw him drive his way to a fourth-place finish Saturday, you’d understand that he likes the low groove better than the cushion at the Valley of Speed.

After starting in the 14th position, Britten worked his way up to the top ten early in the feature event. That’s when he moved to the high side to try and get around a few cars. One problem? There wasn’t really an outside groove to work with for his #21a Troyer race car. He slid back a few spots and had to regroup.

Once he did that, he found that the bottom line was better for his car’s set up and he began to mow down his competition, one-by-one.

“I’m thinking running on the bottom here at Lebanon may become my trademark,” Britten said with a laugh. “If we had a downfall anywhere on Saturday, it was definitely the top of turn two.”

Britten used the tricky track conditions to his advantage. Even though air temperatures were warmer than on opening night, the racing surface became greaser than it did one week prior. This played right into Peter’s hands.

“The track was slicker then the previous week,” he said. “I think that made the racing better and my Troyer came alive. It seemed as if you were better then the guy in front of you, you could pass. That’s all you can ask for out of a race track.”

Britten brought his car home in the fourth spot and now sits atop the Lebanon Valley Modified point standings, albeit tied with former track champion Andy Bachetti and four markers ahead of the all-time winningest driver at the speedway, Kenny Tremont.

If you’re looking for more information about Peter’s other races he was scheduled to run this past week, you’re out of luck. Albany-Saratoga rained out, yet again, on Friday and Mother Nature wasn’t a friend to the Super DIRTcar Series as officials had to cancel the tour stop at Outlaw Speedway this past Tuesday night.

Malta will try again this week with their big “Hoosier Mama” Mother’s Day special. Then, “Batman” will hit the High Banks at Lebanon again on Saturday to see if he can grab his first career win at the West Lebanon, NY oval.
