Tyler Thompson To Compete In Sportsman At OCFS’s Hard Clay Open Sunday
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – Tyler Thompson and Jason Simmons Racing have added another event to their April calendar, as the team will head to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY on Sunday, April 7 to compete in the Sportsman portion of the Hard Clay Open.
The Sportsman event will run under Orange County Fair Speedway rules as a support division next to the $11,919 to win Short Track Super Series Modified main event.
Last year, Thompson showed tremendous speed in his first ever visit to Orange County Fair Speedway, qualifying third fastest of 90-cars for the annual running of Eastern States Weekend. After battling adversity early on, Thompson charged to a ninth-place finish in his first ever start at OCFS.
Following OCFS, Thompson’s schedule will really ramp up.
After making his Super DIRTcar Series Modified debut at Volusia Speedway Park in February, Thompson is slated to make his first career Super DIRTcar Series attempt in the state of New York on Saturday, April 13 as part of the tour’s season opening Thunder in the Thousand Islands at Can-Am Speedway in LaFargeville, NY.
The 100-lap, $10,000 to win Super DIRT Week Qualifier at Can-Am, will be the first of four Big Block events for Thompson in April.
The next night on Sunday, April 14, Thompson will pull double duty in both Big Block and Small Block Modified action at Utica-Rome Speedway’s season opening Spring Break Shootout in Vernon, NY.
The night’s Big Block main event will pay $2,500 to win with $1,500 going to the winner of the Small Block program.
The next weekend Thompson will take his Big Block machine to the Land of Legends Raceway in Canandaigua, NY for their Cabin Fever season opener on Saturday, April 20.
On Saturday, April 27, Thompson will re-join the Super DIRTcar Series Modified tour, this time at Fulton Speedway for the 5th annual Highbank Holdup 100 in Fulton, NY.
JSR and Thompson will hit the pavement beginning on Saturday, May 18 with Oswego Speedway’s open practice session before kicking off their Supermodified season at Oswego on Saturday, May 25 with the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s.
