Billy Pauch Jr. Records First Win Of 2019 Saturday At New Egypt
Story By: MANDEE PAUCH / PAUCH RACING – FRENCHTOWN, NJ – After a late race upset on opening night, Billy Pauch Jr. and the Holsten Motorsports team made their way back to New Egypt Speedway this past weekend for redemption and came out on top.
“Opening night we lost the lead in lap traffic,” he said. “This week we capitalized in lap traffic.”
Pauch Jr. opened the evening with a sixth-place finish in his heat race from 11th.
After the heat race, the team made a few adjustments based on track conditions and freed the car up for the feature event.
The 30-lap main event saw Pauch Jr. line up on the outside of the eighth row in the No.96 machine.
As the green flag dropped, Pauch Jr. wasted no time. By halfway, the scoreboard saw the No.96 climb its way into the top-five.
As soon as Pauch Jr. overtook second-place, leader Cale Ross just encountered the tail end of the field with eleven laps remaining. As lap traffic got heavier, Pauch Jr. was able to capitalize and make his move.
“Cale was running a really good race,” noted Pauch Jr. “With five laps to go I was able to clear him in lap traffic and take the lead.”
Pauch Jr. pulled away to record his first victory of the season.
“After losing the lead in lap traffic last week, this win was a good confidence booster for sure,” he said. “It’s a pretty good way to kick off the season.”
This coming weekend Pauch Jr. will be at Big Diamond Speedway Friday evening for their season opener in the Kid Racing No.15 and back to New Egypt Speedway on Saturday in the Holsten Motorsports No.96.
