Albany-Saratoga & Fulton Up Next For Tyler Thompson & Jason Simmons Racing
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – Rain over the weekend canceled any hopes of Big Block Modified racing for Tyler Thompson, but the driver of the No. 98T will get two opportunities this week with stops at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on April 23 and Fulton Speedway on April 27.
Albany-Saratoga’s season opener was canceled on Friday, April 19 and rescheduled to Tuesday, April 23, giving Thompson the chance to run his Big Block Modified for the first time at the Malta, NY oval.
The season opening event will be a 54-lap Modified special, paying a hefty $5,400 to the winner.
Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Saturday, April 27, Thompson will re-join the Super DIRTcar Series Modified tour, this time at Fulton Speedway for the 5th annual Highbank Holdup 100 in Fulton, NY.
A former Sportsman winner on the highbanks, Thompson is eager to step on the JSR Big Block this weekend alongside the best in Modified racing.
Grandstand gates will open at 3 p.m. on Saturday with racing slated for 6 p.m.
JSR and Thompson will hit the pavement beginning on Saturday, May 18 with Oswego Speedway’s open practice session before kicking off their Supermodified season at Oswego on Saturday, May 25 with the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s.
While Thompson and JSR were not able to contend in Big Block action over the weekend, the team did head to Five Mile Point Speedway for Sportsman action on Saturday. Thompson qualified well, landing in the redraw, but two flat tires in feature action stopped a rapid climb through the order.
