RPW Exclusive: Johnson First At Checkered In North Florida; DQed During Post Race Inspection
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – Lake City, FL – While the rest of Florida was seeing off and on again rain throughout the day, North Florida was able to get in all of the events. The Grit Series was at the speedway for its Finale of the 602 Sportsman Winternationals.
Winning the qualifying heats were Jeff Brown, Andrew Smith, Bobby Hackel, and Craig Whitmoyer. In their 35 lap feature event, it was Brian Mady who dominated much of the event until the Doctor Danny Johnson was on the back bumper of the 1x. With just a handful of laps remaining, Danny Johnson went to the middle groove of the speedway on the restart.
Johnson was able to make his 9J stick on the outside of the 1x and power his way past the Mady on the exit of turn 4 to take the lead on lap 32. That would be enough as he would take the checkered flag a few laps later. Kyle Inman was able to get by Mady on lap 33 to take the runner up spot, Mady finished 3rd, Bobby Hackel 4th, Garrett Krummert 5th.
During Post Race Inspection, it was found that Danny Johnson was disqualified.
