RPW Exclusive: Work Commitments Forcing Luke Whitteker To Run Part-Time In 2019
Column By: TIM BALTZ / RPW – IROQUOIS, ONT – After overcoming many hurdles during the past few years and rising to the top of the 358 Modified ranks in 2017 with his first Brockville Ontario Speedway 358 Modified championship, to battling a near career ending injury in the winter of 2018, Iroquois Ontario native Luke Whitteker has been through plenty in the last couple of seasons, however he and his team will take on the new year with a brand-new approach.
An engineer by trait, Whitteker has taken on a new job recently in Sarnia Ontario and has relocated to that area to be near his newest adventure in his young life. Obviously with the move making it nearly impossible to focus totally on racing, with a 600 kilometer or 375-mile distance of travel time each way every weekend because of his new job, Whitteker plans to run big events only this year including the Ogilvie’s Auto and Fleet Triple Crown Series at the Brockville Ontario Speedway which is a three-race series that Whitteker won during his 2017 track title campaign at Brockville. He also plans on defending his 2018 Fat Less Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Series title at the Cornwall Speedway. But may add more events throughout the year.
“I’ll still have everyone who has supported me over the years back behind me once again for 2019.” Whitteker said during an interview at the recent Cornwall Speedway banquet while accepting his 2018 Canadian Nationals title. “We have a new car on order and will have it ready to go for the first race of the year whenever that may be.”
No changes as far as sponsors either for Whitteker’s family run team as all his supporters will be back in 2019 with a major emphasis on winning races instead of worrying about points.
