Woodhull Raceway Joins Rush LM Series As Weekly Sanctioned Saturday Night Track

Story By: MIKE LEONE / RUSH RACING SERIES – PULASKI, PA – The Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC RUSH Racing Series powered by Pace Performance is pleased to announce that Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull, New York will be the newest track part of the Sweeney RUSH Late Model Weekly Series beginning in 2019 with weekly Saturday night racing.

Woodhull becomes the fifth Empire State track to run the RUSH Late Models on a weekly basis in addition to several other New York tracks that host special Weekly or Touring events

The 2019 season at Woodhull will mark the 10th season under the promotion of Ted White. In 2017, the Crate Late Models were added to Woodhull’s schedule after the end of more than a decade run by the “360” Late Models, which were dropped from the card due to declining numbers. Many of RUSH’s top New York racers have come out of the “360” Late Model division including each of the past three Tour champions (John Waters, Bryce Davis & Jeremy Wonderling). Back on September 27, 2014, Wayne Robertson captured the first and only RUSH-sanctioned event at Woodhull that was a Tour show.

“We’re glad to be able to bring Woodhull under the RUSH banner,” stated RUSH Director Vicki Emig. “Many of their weekly racers have asking for the RUSH sanction at Woodhull the last two years. This will now allow their racers to take part in the weekly RUSH programs. With the RUSH sanction, we expect some other racers to now race at Woodhull which should boost their car count. I’ve known Ted White for many years back to when I owned Mercer Raceway Park. He used to bring his Modified driven by Billy VanPelt to my ‘Little Guy Nationals’, and the team is a past winner of the prestigious event. We’ve remained friends and stayed in contact over the years.”

RUSH member racers will now be able to participate at Woodhull on a weekly basis and be eligible for all of the programs including the Sweeney Weekly Series Championship, the Pace Performance “Summer Chase”, and the “Futures Cup” for those eligible racers. Member racers will battle for the “Track Pack Bonus” with $300 going to the driver that accumulates the most RUSH points at Woodhull, $200 for second, $150 for third, $100 for fourth, and $50 for fifth over and above all other Championship monies. While membership is not mandatory to compete at RUSH-sanctioned events, membership also includes a $100,000 excess participant accident policy, which is over and above drivers’ health insurance and speedways’ participant accident policy.

Beings Woodhull was already using the RUSH rules package, there will be no transition or burn-off period for tires or fuel in 2019.

Woodhull opened in 1965 by George Williams, who with his two sons designed and constructed the track. 2019 will mark the 55th consecutive season of continuous race activity at the historic Steuben County New York facility now under the ownership and promotion of Harrison Valley businessman, Ted White.

The configuration of Woodhull Raceway is a very high-banked 1/4-mile clay oval. The paperclip design with its long straightaways and high-banked tight turns make it a very unique track to drivers and spectators alike.
