World Of Outlaws Invade Port Royal Speedway For Two-Day Stand This Week

Story By: SHAWN BROUSE / PORT ROYAL SPEEDWAY – PORT ROYAL, PA – A two-day stand by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Series is coming up this Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27 at Port Royal Speedway, culminating with the running of the 51st annual Tuscarora 50 paying $51,000 to win on Saturday night.

The event will be the first two-day stand by the outlaws at the track in history and banner fields of the best in the sprint car business are set to assemble and collide for bragging rights in both programs.

Friday night will feature the Nittany Showdown, featuring the World of Outlaws and Posse cars and stars in a 30-lap affair paying $8,000 to the winner.

Friday action begins at 7 pm with gates opening at 4 pm.

And then the Saturday Tuscarora 50, presented by Ramsey’s Garage & Car Wash of Mifflintown as well as Packer’s Concessions of Centre Hall, will conclude the 2018 racing season at Port Royal Speedway in the biggest way possible, boasting a one-day sprint car purse worth over $107,000.

Saturday action is slated for 5 pm with gates opening at 1 pm.

A Sunday, October 28 raindate is in effect if needed.

Both shows will be sprints only programs.

Last year, Lance Dewease won the 50th annual Tuscarora 50 to score his unprecedented sixth career win in the storied history of the track marquee event for sprint cars.

And Dewease will be leading the Pennsylvania Posse into this year’s Port Royal outlaws stand and Saturday’s Tuscarora 50.

The Fayetteville driver owns four wins at the track this season as part of his even dozen 2018 season victories.

Dewease became the winningest driver in the history of the 50 when he claimed his fifth event title in 2016.

But the T50 win by Dewease in 2017 set up his car owner Don Kreitz Jr. and his No. 69K to break another record in 2018.

With the win last year, Kreitz became a five-time Tuscarora 50 car owner champion, which ties him with Al Hamilton and Bob Weikert on the event all time car owner win list.

Kreitz took 50 wins as a driver/owner in 1993, 1999 and in 2013 before becoming solely an owner for Dewease’s wins in 2016 and 2017.

Hamilton’s No. 77 took wins in 1971 with Smokey Snellbaker, in 1996, 1997 and 2000 with Fred Rahmer and with Dewease in 2002.

Weikert saw his No. 29 score a win with Kenny Weld in 1973 followed by four in a row with Doug Wolfgang at the wheel in 1984, 1985,1986 and in 1987.

Thus, if Dewease is able to best the stellar field for Kreitz again on Saturday night, Kreitz would go out front as the winningest car owner in Tuscarora 50 history.

Freddie Rahmer, who has won the last two sprint car races held at Port Royal Speedway, should also be a top local contender when action begins this weekend.

Rahmer has already beaten the outlaws travelers once this season.

The outlaws will be led into Port Royal this week by perennial series favorite and titlist Donny Schatz, who just scored his 20th win of the 2018 outlaws campaign on October 20 at Dodge City, Kansas.

The outlaws band will bring nine-time 2018 winner and Knoxville Nationals Champion Brad Sweet back to Port Royal this weekend along with nine-time winner and former Port Royal regular Daryn Pittman and three-time winning former track regular Brent Marks.

Other winners on the tour this season include Logan Schuchart, Shane Stewart, Sheldon Haudenschild, Rico Abreu, Cory Eliason, Kerry Madsen, Aaron Reutzel, Giovanni Scelzi, Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell.

Schatz is the defending outlaws winner at the track after taking his second career oval win last October.

Adult general admission for Friday’s show is set at $30 with students ages 12 – 18 priced at $20. Reserved seat admission for Friday is $35 for ALL ages.

Saturday adult general admission is $35 with students again set at $20 while reserved seat admission for ALL ages is $40.
