Tyler Thompson Hurries On ‘The Hard Clay’ To Top Ten Finish At Eastern States
Story By: DAN KAPUSCINSKI / JASON SIMMONS RACING – OSWEGO, NY – A mid-week decision to make the Friday haul to Orange County Fair Speedway for the 50-lap Eastern States Weekend Sportsman Championship proved fruitful for Jason Simmons Racing and driver Tyler Thompson.
Fresh off top runs on the dirt during Super DIRT Week and at Brockville Ontario Speedway, Thompson immediately showed speed on the Hard Clay of Orange County in his Bicknell Racing Chassis No. 98T machine, flying to third on the charts in time trials of nearly 90 overall entries.
Thompson’s lap was more than enough to lock the 17-year old driver into the $5,000 to win finale without having to contend in a qualifying event.
Starting from the inside of the second row in the 50-lap main, Thompson held his own for an eighth place finish in the main event behind a host of experienced OCFS drivers, making for a more than successful day for the Fulton, NY driver who was one of the only Central New York shoes to make the journey to Eastern States.
Thompson will next take on the dirt as a part of the Driven Racing Oil World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte on October 25-27, where he is the defending champion of the Sportsman All-Star Invitational.
