Steve Poirier Wins Sprint Car Clash Sunday Night At Airborne Park
Story By: ROBBY KNOWLES / AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY – PLATTSBURGH, NY – Quebec ace, “Fireball” Steve Poirier collected the $4,000 prize in the 25-lap main event for the American/Canadian Sprint Car Clash at Airborne Park Speedway.
Poirier took the lead on lap-14 while passing Billy VanInwegen coming out of turn four. Poirier would lead until veteran driver, Chuck Hebing pulled a slide-job in turns one and two on lap-22 to take the lead, but ending up jumping the cushion and falling back to second.
Hebing ended up in the second spot, with Matt Tanner completing the podium. Jeff Cook and VanInwegen finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
“The track was really tricky tonight,” Poirier said. “It’s always cool to race alongside Chuck, were the two oldest guys out here.”
Invader, Adam Pierson scored the victory in the Poirier’s True Value Sportsman Modified non-points event.
Pierson was running the top of the track and made the winning pass on lap-23.
Dylan Rabtoy, who lead much of the race finished second, while Codie Aubin, Johnny Scarborough and Lonnie Rivers finished in the top five.
Brent Jarvis parked in victory lane for the fourth time in the Ernie’s Discount Tools Super Stock division.
Jarvis was the overall winner after the three segment races and he also collected the division’s championship for the second year in a row.
Joe Daniels, Tylor Terry, Michael Wright and Tyler Irwin finished in positions two through five.
Josh Laporte won for the sixth time and collected the championship for the Mini-Mod division and Shawn Walker collected win number 10 and the Strictly Stock championship.
