Several Tracks & Series Honoring Fallen Sprint Car Legend Greg Hodnett In Their Own Ways

Several tracks and series are mourning fallen Sprint Car driver Greg Hodnett who lost his life Thursday in an accident at BAPS Motor Speedway. Here are statements from each about what they are doing.

Dirt Classic 5 At Lincoln Speedway Moved To Saturday, October 6th

In light of the tragic loss of sprint car legend Greg Hodnett on Thursday evening, the Dirt Classic and Lincoln Speedway have made the decision to move the Dirt Classic 5 events from Saturday, September 22nd to Saturday, October 6th out of respect for the Hodnett family and to give teams, officials and the racing community time to grieve this kind, intelligent and passionate friend and competitor.

In the four runnings of the Dirt Classic since 2014, Hodnett never finished outside of the top ten. He was the winner of the 2016 Dirt Classic Showcase at Lincoln Speedway, earning a guaranteed starting spot in the main event’s A-Main, and posted his best finish of third place in that season’s Dirt Classic.

Although competitors always felt Hodnett’s skillful presence on the track, it was his influence off the track that most impacted the Dirt Classic and our racing family. It was an honor to work with Greg over the years to help shape this event.

All tickets for the Dirt Classic 5 will be honored in full at the October 6th date. Any fans who are not able to attend the new date can email race@dirtclassic.com for information on receiving a refund.

All Stars Mourn The Loss Of Greg Hodnett

On behalf of the All Star Circuit of Champions, we send our condolences to the family of Greg Hodnett, his wife Sherry and their family, team owner Mike Heffner and the crew at Heffner Racing, and to all of those throughout the racing community who got to know Greg.

Hodnett, of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, succumbed to injuries sustained in a crash during a sprint car race Thursday night at BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven, Pennsylvania.

“Greg was one of best sprint car drivers in the country, and as good as he was as a sprint car driver, he was an even better person,” said Tony Stewart, owner of the All Star Circuit of Champions. “Everyone respected Greg for his abilities in the car and for who he was outside the car. Our thoughts are with Greg and his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

A true gentleman, as well as a talented competitor, the All Star Circuit of Champions were fortunate to have Hodnett in its presence often, mainly supporting events in Central Pennsylvania. Hodnett amassed 22 All Star victories throughout his storied career, and although his appearances with the Series were sporadic, his on-track abilities and off-track manner left a lasting impression.

We ask that everyone please keep the Hodnett family and Heffner Racing in your prayers.
