Ryan Susice Victorious In Sid Jeffery Memorial Friday At Ransomville

Story By: STEVE PETTY / RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY – RANSOMVILLE, NY – “The Ransomville Renegade” Ryan Susice was victorious in the second annual Sid Jeffery Memorial as Jeffery Machine, Performance Mfg., Allstate Insurance, Niagara Frontier Publications, and Painters Plus presented the night’s racing action at the Ransomville Speedway on Friday night.

Former Mr. DIRT Sportsman titlist Brad Rouse from St. Catharines, Ontario won the 40-lap Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series Western Region event. Pete Stefanski from Wheatfield, NY won his sixth KiPo Chevrolet Street Stock feature of the season. Chad Desso from Wilson, NY scored his fifth win of the season in the Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers. Cody Wolfe from Appleton, NY won his fourth Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman feature and clinched the 2018 divisional title.

Canadian chauffeurs Gary Lindberg and Todd Gordon brought the Krown Undercoating Modifieds to the green flag for the Sid Jeffery Memorial feature event with Lindberg in the lead with Ryan Susice moving into second. Lindberg, Susice, and Rick Richner quickly pulled away from the battle for fourth between outside pole sitter Todd Gordon and CB3 Chad Brachmann. Richner would catch Susice and battle for second as “The Franklin Flyer” Billy Decker started to move up into the front half of the field. Decker and Matt Farnham battled for fifth place after Farnham hit the turn two wall on lap 10. While the leaders hit lap traffic on lap 15, Susice closed the gap and caught the bumper of race leader Lindberg. Susice took the Slack Racing #3rs to the lead on lap 16. Susice got held up in lap traffic, giving the lead back to Lindberg on lap 20, as Lindberg collected the halfway bonus award. Lindberg and Susice pulled away from third place running Chad Brachmann and put on a battle for the ages. With 12 laps remaining, Decker would pass Richner to enter the top five. Lindberg jumped the cushion on lap 29, allowing Susice to close in the gap and would use a slide job to take the lead away with 10 laps remaining. Over the final 10 laps, Susice and Lindberg continued their battle but, in the end, it was “The Ransomville Renegade” seeing the checkered flag first and collecting the $2,000 payday.

Ryan Ferri and Brad Rouse shared the front row for race number one for the Western Region of the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series with Rouse in the lead at the start as Ransomville track champion Brett Senek moved into second on lap two. Cameron Tuttle battled with Ferri for third on lap six, as Rouse and Senek pulled away. The first yellow flag of the event came out on lap six as David Fingerlow hit the front stretch wall and ended in the moat. On the restart, Rouse and Senek would pull away from Cameron Tuttle, as Derek Wagner and James Henry raced in the top five. David Fingerlow came to a stop, in turn, one to bring out the races’ second caution on lap 14. On the restart, “The Lockport Laser” Andrew Smith started 15th on the grid and by lap 15, worked into the top five as he battled Derek Wagner for fourth place. Derek Wagner would take the lead from Rouse on lap 18 as he went to the outside to pass both Senek and Rouse. James Michael Friesen would enter the top ten after starting in 28th position the grid. Rouse would regain the lead on lap 23 and Senek would regain the runner-up position. The lead trio of Rouse, Senek, and Smith would start to pull away from Wagner and Kyle Inman, who raced in the top five for the first time on lap 25 after starting 13th on the grid. Inman would pass Wagner to take over fourth on lap 34, and at the same time, Senek and Smith jousted for second place. Rouse would pull away from Senek to score his second straight Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series event victory at the Big R.

Bryce Richardson and Chris Dziomba were on the front row in the 20-lap feature for the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks with Dziomba showing the way. Sophomore driver Jordan Moden spun, in turn, four as Randy Zimmerman and Dan Korpanty were also involved. On the restart, Dziomba, Cory Sawyer, and Pete Stefanski battled for the lead. The trio would pull away from Casey Jonathan who was fending off the battle as Bryce Richardson and Jaren Israel battled for fifth place. Sawyer would clear Dziomba for the lead on lap seven and Stefanski would move into second place. Stefanski would take the lead away just two laps later, as the 2018 divisional champion opened-up his lead. Stefanski would go on to score the win, his sixth of the season.

Cole Susice and Steve Matson brought the Gippster’s Collision 4 Bangers to the green flag for their main event with Susice showing the way. Susice would open-up his lead over the rest of the field as Chad Desso raced in second place. Susice would pull off the track on the white flag lap while leading, giving the lead and win to Chad Desso. For Desso, it was his fifth divisional win of the season, setting up an interesting point battle heading into Season Championship Night next Friday night.

Orval Harris and Matt Foster were on the front row for the Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman feature with Foster showing the way. Harris and Cody Wolfe would challenge for the lead in the race’s early stages. Orval Harris would gain the lead on lap five as Cody Wolfe took over second on lap six. Harris would hold off Wolfe’s challenges. Wolfe would take the lead away on lap 11. Wolfe would go on to score the win, his fourth of the season and with the victory, would claim the track championship.

NEWS AND NOTES: The Ransomville Speedway Awards Banquet will take place on Saturday, November 10th at the Lewiston #2 Fire Company. Jonsie will be the musical entertainment and the banquet will be catered by Donna Eick. More information about the banquet will be announced in the coming weeks.

The final Friday night of the 2018 season will take place on Friday, September 14 as Investors Service, Bailey Brothers Landscaping, and Firth Jewelers presents the annual King of the Hill. The 2018 edition of the King of the Hill will feature the Sean Letts Memorial for the Bellinger Electric Inc. (BEI) Lightning Series for Sportsman plus the 100-lap King of the Hill 100 for the Street Stocks plus the championship finale for the Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers. Pit gates will open at 5 pm with grandstand gates will open at 6 pm and the first green flag of the night will fly at 7:15 pm.
