Second Place Finish For Rob Maxon Saturday At Lebanon Valley; Now Just Inches From Point Lead
Story By: BOBBY CHALMERS / MAXON RACING – POWNAL, VT – Just one week after collecting his second victory of the 2018 season at the Lebanon Valley Speedway, Rob Maxon backed up that strong run with a second place finish in the Sportsman feature Saturday and put him squarely in the hunt for his first track title.
After starting in the 10th position, Maxon worked his way through the field with precision and was near the front when the checkered flag fell. He crossed the line in third after the 20 laps were complete, but the winner was disqualified, which bumped him up to the runner-up position.
“The car was on a rail, once again, in the feature,” Maxon said. “We had a strong car and one that I knew could make passes whenever I felt we needed to. I just couldn’t get up with (Peter) Carlotto or I think we could have gone back-to-back. Congratulations to him.”
Maxon had a strong run in his heat race but knew he had some work to do if he wanted to get win number three of the season on the high banks.
“The car was a little loose getting into the corners and at the apex,” he said. “That hurt us so we couldn’t get any kind of drive off, but my guys went to work and we made some adjustments which really made this car come alive.”
With his second place finish, Maxon now sits only a handful of points behind leader Chris Curtis for the championship. The top four in the class are separated by less than 10 markers heading into the next event on August 18th.
“We are extremely excited for how this car is running,” he said. “After the strong run we had two weeks ago getting the win, and now a second to back that up, we know the way the track gets this late in the year really works well with our setup and my driving style.”
The next race for Maxon Racing will be Saturday night, August 18th, at Lebanon Valley where Rob will going for his third win of the season.
