RPW Exclusive: T-Mac Was The Man To Beat In North / South Shootout Green-To-Checker Thriller
Column By: ROBERT SYMONDS / RPW – UNION, KY – With the grandstands packed for a Thursday evening under the lights, the Florence Speedway kicks off the North/South 100 weekend with the North/South Shootout.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Series heat races started off with a nail bitter. Bobby Pierce started on the pole and quickly found himself in a 4 car battle for the lead. Tim McCreadie broke through and held off Pierce to win Heat Race number one.
Fast forward to the main event. Tim McCreadie, by winning heat race one, started in the pole position. At the drop of the green flag, McCreadie ran away with the race lead while Nick Hoffman ran second after starting fourth.
During the event, Bobby Pierce, who started in the seventh position, continued his pursuit for a podium position while running the cushion. To what seemed like it was McCreadie’s race to win quickly became a race in which he needed to possibly defend as the fast moving Pierce slid Hoffman for second within the last five laps.
Pierce quickly made up a straightaway worth of space within the last three laps but it was to no avail as Tim McCreadie would hold off Bobby Pierce and win the North/South Shootout.
During the celebration, the fact came through from the Lucas Oil Late Model Series announcer James Essex that the North/South Shootout was a first win of McCreadie’s on the season and the fourteenth different Lucas Oil Late Model winner in 2018.
