RPW Exclusive: Another Sunday Night At Glen Ridge…Another Win For Dave Constantino

Column By: LAURIE FALLIS / RPW – FULTONVILLE, NY – Not even a bounty of $500 was able to keep Dave Constantino from victory lane Sunday night at the Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

One thing is for sure. He certainly had the fastest quarter mile dialed in once again, claiming the 30-lap feature.

Jim Introne Jr. that jumped out to the early lead from his pole position starting spot as Brian Calabrese got to second. As Calabrese was looking under Introne for the top spot, contact was made spinning the leader and sending cars scrambling to avoid contact. With such action, the 21c was sent to the rear.
The restart had Joe Orlando trying to get away from the fast-charging Tim Hartman Jr. and Constantino as those two were chasing him down. The #7 got around Hartman and had his sights on the leader. The ” bear ” was on the prowl as he was looking for the best way to take the number one spot away.
Lap eight was when the move was made as Constantino took to the high side around Orlando in turns three and four. Trouble almost ensued as the #818 hit the inside tire sending him up the track, narrowly missing Constantino.
The showdown was about to happen between the two bounty cars of Constantino and Hartman Jr., but Constantino fired right back in front and kept his streak going. He went on to claim his ninth win of the season at the Ridge. Hartman Jr. once again had to settle for the bridesmaid position with Andrew Buff making his way back to the track in a borrowed car normally driven by David Bosclair. He brought the machine home in third coming from the eighth starting position.
Corey Cormier was fourth and Calabrese came back for fifth after the early penalty. As the bounty wasn’t claimed, the anti will go up next week you can be assured that all drivers will be up for the challenge.
Limited Sportsman had the “young gun” of Derrick McGrew Jr. taking his second starting spot and showed the boys that he was going to be the car to beat. Shane Larman settled into second and just set back hoping the 26 would make a mistake, but McGrew Jr. was well in command.
Caution on lap 12 bunched up the field giving drivers ideas on how to get by the youngster in the lead. It was the car that was in the third position, Ryan Heath, that took advantage on the restart as he grabbed second from Larman.
McGrew Jr. was still the leader and not looking to give it up. Caution flew with six laps remaining giving Heath a shot at the leader. As the field took the green, going into turn one, contact was made as Larman got into the back of Heath looping him around. Heath had to restart into the back, ending his bid for the victory.
Derrick McGrew Jr. held off all challenges and grabbed yet another victory in his young career. Larman settled for second. David Bosclair was able to take home third with Troy Scott fourth and Ryan Heath making his way back up for fifth.
The Street Stock win went to Stevie Cosselman, leading from green to checkered. There would be no heartbreak finish this week for him like last week when he suffered a flat tire on the last lap.
Also on the card was the Wing Champ Racing Series and they sure did put on a show. The track that was originally for karts when it first came into existence .
They field was 22-karts strong and they were given a smooth surface to race on. Ryan Swartz made a four-wide pass off of turn four to claim the victory, his second ever at the track.
The Pro Stock feature had Ivan Joslin going green to checkers for the victory. Justin Knight tried to challenge Joslin but just could never get close enough.
The 4-Cylinders had PJ Bleau claim the Dual Cam win and Keith Tesiero Jr. getting the Single Cam.
The Sr. Slingshots had “The Thrill” Mike Hill coming back and reclaiming victory lane as last week he took a hard hit into the wall. There was no doubt on Sunday though as he certainly came back strong. The Jr. Slingshot feature was won by Garrett Poland.
A scary accident that took place in the Jr.Slingshot as multi-time winner Brock Pinkerous rolled his car several times after contact from another racer. Everyone in the speedway was concerned, but the youngster was checked over and escaped with no injuries.
Next Sunday night will be the Aftershock, Big Block / Small Block 66-lap event, paying $2,500-to-win. Also on tap will be Hoosier Daddy, 602 Regional Championship…55-laps with $1,000 to the winner.
As you feel the shake from all the rumble of the cars you don’t want to miss it.
Monday, I will be on to my fourth race in four days, but I must say, it’s the most important to this writer. It will be the race in honor of the great Jumpin’ Jack Johnson. Make sure you all get to Fonda Speedway and show Jack how much we appreciate one of our great legends in Dirt Track Racing. 12A all the way…thank you Jumper.
God Bless our Troops and see you all at the races!
