Rico Abreu Battles For Outlaw Top-Ten At Red River Valley Speedway

HELENA, CA – Although kicking-off the recent weekend slightly disappointed, scored 19th during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series main event competition at River Cities (N.D.) Speedway on Friday, August 17 – the result of contact with another competitor – St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu rebounded in a big way on Saturday night, August 18, and concluded his weekend in North Dakota with a top-ten performance against the Greatest Show On Dirt.
Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Alpinestars/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, earned his top-ten performance during action at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ending his Saturday evening visit with an eighth place finish after starting in the exact same position. The recent World of Outlaws winner during Ironman 55 action in Pevely, Mo., earned his fourth row starting position by way of heat race finish, automatically qualifying for main event action by finishing third during his respective heat race.
The top-ten finish was Abreu’s 22nd of the 2018 season, his eighth during World of Outlaws competition. In addition, the visits to River Cities Speedway and Red River Valley Speedway were firsts for the former Chili Bowl Nationals champion.
“Friday was hard to swallow for us, especially after starting so close to the front,” Abreu explained, who started third on Friday night during his visit to River Cities Speedway. “That stuff happens, I guess. When you’re racing that hard against some of the best drivers and teams in the world, one mistake can cost you your entire evening. I’m excited that we were able to recover on Saturday. We’ll keep working hard and keep moving forward. That’s all we can do.”
Rico Abreu’s upcoming schedule will unfold day-to-day. Although initial talk included following the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series westward, the schedule could change.
