I LOVE NY Honors Motorsports With Super DIRT Week Display At New York State Fair

Story By: JOE GRABIANOWSKI / DIRTCAR – SYRACUSE, NY – The great end-of-summer tradition in New York state, much like in other states across this great country, is a trip to the annual State Fair. Livestock, butter sculptures and food — loads and loads of food — form the backdrop to the ultimate celebration of the most diverse and populous state of the Union. What started as a nod to the agricultural community in the 1800s has evolved into a colorful 13-day (August 22-September 3) celebration of New York’s varied offerings, amongst them motorsports.

As the Great New York State Fair opens its doors today, patrons will have a chance to explore the two biggest motorsports events in New York state: NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week and NASCAR Weekend at Watkins Glen International Speedway.

The I LOVE NY motorsports display will showcase the HBR Motorsports No. 6 Big-Block Modified in the brand-new Expo Building, alongside the No. 18 car of Monster Energy NASCAR Cup driver Kyle Busch. The building will feature a temporary ice rink and an interactive exhibit from I LOVE NY highlighting the state’s tourism throughout the four seasons.

If the Great New York State Fairs symbolizes end of summer in New York, NAPA Super DIRT Week is practically synonymous with Fall. The crisp temperatures, brilliant sunshine, and colorful leaves all contribute to the extraordinary racing atmosphere at the historic event, this year from October 3 through 7.

After losing its long-time New York State Fairgrounds home in 2016, this year’s event will be the third consecutive NAPA Super DIRT Week to take place at Oswego Speedway, an asphalt race track for the bulk of the season. Hundreds of truckloads of clay are brought in to create the racing surface for Racing’s Biggest Party. Last year the racing was unforgettable as Super DIRTcar Series Champion Super Matt Sheppard made a last lap pass to win the 200-lap finale.

HBR Motorsports is a premier Big-Block Modified race team based in Weedsport, NY. They field two full-time entries in the Super DIRTcar Series. Series driver Jimmy Phelps, a staunch, competitive veteran racer, drove the No. 6 Troyer Mud Buss at the final NAPA Super DIRT Week to take place at the former New York State Fairgrounds race track.

Fair-goers are encouraged to stop by for a close-up look at racing history, a selfie with the No. 6 car, and a copy of the 2018 NAPA Super DIRT Week schedule at Oswego Speedway, as well as numerous satellite events, including the Kickoff Party at Weedsport Speedway on October 3.
